Lung collapse (Pneumothorax)
A pneumothorax is a collapsed lung. A pneumothorax happens when air leaks into the pleural cavity. This is the space between the outside of your lung and your ribcage. A small pneumothorax may cause few or no symptoms.
A large pneumothorax can squash the lung and cause it to collapse.
Treatment involves surgery.
The aim of treatment is to relieve the pressure on your lung so that it re-expands. If a pneumothorax happens more than once on the same side, or an air leak continues despite aspiration or a chest drain, you might need to have a small operation.
The operation I perform is key hole using advanced technology to allow for precision and early recovery.

COPD (Emphysema)
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a group of lung conditions where it’s difficult to breathe air out of the lungs.
There is a vast body of evidence that confirms a subset of patients with COPD will benefit with surgery, lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS).
Robotic surgery has revolutionised the outcomes for patients undergoing LVRS. The benefit includes minimal invasive surgery and real time intra-operative assessment of lung function has resulted in reduced hospital stay and faster recovery to get onto lung rehabilitation exercises after.
Lung nodule clinic
Lung nodules are very common but also very often misdiagnosed. We provide patients an efficient way to make sure they have been given the right information and best possible care.
We aim to provide the fastest possible diagnosis where cancer is suspected, whilst minimising unnecessary scans and invasive procedures when a nodule is likely to be benign.
This is where expert judgement is critical.
